Hello, I'm back on my channel better than yesterday. Sunil Ghera here. Today's topic is is job security dead and what replaces it? Let's begin. For decades we have been told by people that study hard, get a good degree, and take up a job. It could be MNC, government job, it could be private job, and stay there, work hard, get promotions, and you go from one level to the other level, and finally reach to the highest possible level, and then you can retire with a good package, good retirement plans. That was the goal of every professional. How this has changed altogether in today's world. Somebody started in the past his job of a teacher. After a few years, he worked very well and he became a principal. He kept working hard, he became assistant director, and then he got promoted to deputy director. So he finally settled his children, took a retirement. Similarly, in MNC, person started with a job of a medical representative, then he grew to the level of field manager. From field manager, he grew to the level of regional manager, and so and so forth. But that situation doesn't hold good today. Today, the industries vanish, the jobs vanish, they are freezing in hiring. What is the reason? First and foremost is technological advancement. What was relevant five years back may not be relevant at all. You have seen how AI and automation has taken big strides. Let me give you some examples. Earlier, the machines took away the labor jobs, like a person who was a returner, who was a registrant metallurgist, has been replaced by machines like CNC machines, automatic welding machines. Similarly, if it comes to the pharmaceutical industry, earlier the semi-automatic machines, say for file filling, while filling, suppose they were filling at a speed of 50 wires per minute, it changed to automatic while filling machine, which can fill 500 files per minute, especially during the COVID period, like C Rum Institute. They manufactured vials for all over the world. When India became a pharmacy for the whole world, millions of vials were produced every day, and they were immediately airlifted in many, many countries. So the technological change has taken away a lot of jobs. Now, second thing is about absolutely that what a person knew five years before may not be relevant at all today. Suppose a person had learned coding or knew how to write content, but now that job is taken care of by is done much better. Where 50 employees were required? No, only 50 are employed. Third, jobs have become global. Earlier, a person worked in Bombay and he lived there and he was getting suitably paid and he kept progressing. So the career was permanent. But today, a person working in a company can be substituted by another person in other parts of the country. Now, the selection can be from Bangalore, from Pune, from NCR, from maybe other parts of the world. Because there's a cost differential. Sometimes there's a knowledge gap also. Suppose a person is having a software job in India, in Bombay, and he gets for that job 80,000 rupees per month. But the same job in England, in London, can be done by software engineer there, and there the salary may be 10,000 pounds per month. So this is a difference of 12 and a half times. Now, I would like to ask you that what replaces the job security. Job security can be replaced by a better and bigger and more useful thing called carrier portfolio. A person in the past did specific work, suppose he was in hospitality and he was providing accommodation to travelers and good salary. Howard today has more methods of income. He can be a hospitality trader, he can be a bottom, he can be an educator. See, a lot of doctors today are doing this. They are consultants for different hospitals, they are having their own clinic, they are performing surgeries in many hospitals, they are offering consultancy in a particular hospital on a regular basis. So people have a career portfolio. Now, I'll come to the next point. That's how you can apply in your life. The first and foremost thing is continue learning. The learning should never stop. When a person learns, he engages better, his knowledge improves, he adapts to different situations. That adaptability is very, very important. I'm sure you would like my today's podcast.
